Treasure trove or a pile of rubbish?

Finally got around to having a close look in the box of bits my son brought over last time he visited as he wondered whether they'd be of any use or could I repair them.

Amongst the lot are a rake of 6 early Farish Pullmans, all look ok but will need the wheels replacing and will look great behind one of my new SR locos.

There is also a Peco Jubilee converted to a GWR Grange with a white metal tender, an Arnold 0-6-0 chassis with what looks like a white metal dock shunter body that has come unglued.  There's a Minitrix Britannia, a black Minitrix Ivatt with a broken front bogie and a Farish Poole Hall with pizza cutter wheels.

As well as the Pullman coaches there is a rake of 6 Farish SR suburban coaches, a rake of 4 highly lined very decorative GWR suburban coaches, a rake of 4 maroon surburban coaches and a couple of Minitrix maroon composite coaches and finally a Lima GWR covered goods wagon, again with pizza cutter wheels.

Hopefully I can use some of these but will have to re-wheel the coaches at least to enable them to run smoothly on my code 55 track.

Sorry to hijack the post but I have a number of old Farish stock that need re-wheeling where is the best place to buy replacement wheel sets that are not at silly prices?

Are you sure the GWR coaches are GWR and not Caledonian ones? The colour is almost the same but the Caledonian ones are a little bit more rare.

Sounds like treasure trove to me, Caz, albeit a small amount of work required. Nice one

If coaching stock then Farish do packs of 10 (ref 379-412) but they seem to be as rare as rocking horse  :poop: let alone what the price is ::)

I have been given a variety of old Farish loco's over the years because I'm one of the few members in our local club that models British outline.

Some of the loco's have been kept for spares but a few weren't even useful for that so I decided to add a preserved railway to my layout and had a lot of fun making the non runners look very rusty and decrepit, adding tarpaulins and parking them in a siding.

Extra wheels and other bits and pieces were scattered around the vicinity. Preserved railways can be quite untidy and usually have all sorts of rolling stock in states of disrepair.

They look like GWR to me but here's a picture of one of them:

Here's a pic of some of the types of coaches, both the Pullmans and Southern surburbans have very old Farish couplers.

Finally there was also this little gem in the box, looks like a Peco Collett to me but uses a Farish 0-6-0 chassis with brass gears throughout and a white metal loco and tender body,  I think the tender is on a Hall chassis as the tender body of one of my old Farish Poole Hall's fits ok if needed.  If I can get this running I guess with all the weight it has it will pull every coach and wagon I have, the only problem is the pizza cutter wheels.

I've got one of those. It's a whitemetal kit on a Hall chassis. Mine runs great and the original builder added a lot of extra detail like crew, irons, lamps etc

dodger

Its a Langley whitemetal body that was designed to be mounted on Farish GP or 94xx chassis.

I reckon those old Farish Pullmans still look very acceptable even these days, Caz.
