Sad news that the 'voice of racing' has passed away. Have followed horse racing all my life and his knowledge and commentaries added so much to the sport.
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

I know him by name only but he'll be missed by many :(

I met him once whilst working in a previous job and of all the "famous" people I came across he was the nicest by far - a real gentleman in every way: kind, polite, courteous and willing to talk - even though I have no interest in his sport. A lovely man with none of the self-importance and arrogance which often comes with fame.

Australians will bet on two fly's on a wall, and any Aussie punter will know the man.

Another icon gone west. Or the great racetrack in the sky, whatever.
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Sounds like he had the same belief as another recently-departed celeb - Val Doonican. In a quote I've heard on the radio recently he said "There's a lot of silliness surrounding fame. Being famous doesn't make you better than the man next door, just that more people know you"
