Hello all,

Does anyone know the authenticity of the black window frames apparent on the new Dapol Class 121 in BR blue/grey livery?

Looks odd to me... and not at all how I remember them.

Looks kind of familiar, possibly NSE-era?

Here's one:

Maybe it's the Chiltern one which is still hanging around? I'm sure I glimpsed it passing through Princes Risborough last year, though didn't see any details.

Thanks railsquid.

Indeed, the pictures I'm seeing with the black window frames are recent (mid to late 2000s) whereas proper blue-grey era photos show the Class 121s with plain yellow front ends. See for example this 2008 photo:

Compared with this from 1984:

Trivial problem perhaps, but the for the recent-era version to be correct it should have a high-intensity light at the front (which the model lacks) as well as the black window frames.

The black window frames were definitely part of the NSE livery, but not, as far as I can tell, original blue-grey.

Is this another situation where Dapol has got the livery wrong?

Hi NeMo,

looks like they did have black windows surrounds on the 122s but haven't seen any on the 121s.

One or two may have received these as depot-level embellishments in the 1980s but they are not authentic for general use.

Rats! Guess this isn't the DMU to pick for a 1980s layout then.

Really want a Class 115 or 117... if Lima could make them, why can't Farish or Dapol!   :'(

You could go for the dapol 122 55005 which had the black window surrounds:

Definitely an option. Already have the Cl. 122 'departmental' route learning vehicle. It's a lovely model.

Misread the caption at first and thought the bubble car was the Penzance to Paddington train! :hmmm:

Nice photo, and seems to have black window frames, doesn't it?

I recall black surrounds on Tyesley 121s in the 90s and pre headlight era depot cover up to mask the black goo attempting to hold and seal frames !

Shame it reduces time line but agree on 117 - bound to come out as I am cutting up several 121s into a 117!!
