When I had OO, I glued cork to it and used track pins and this worked fine. Copydex is the best glue, in my opinion, it dries quicker than PVA although it is more expensive - I did some trials with various glues before starting.

For the points, I cut a hole in the foam and clipped the motors under the points. Before I drilled holes and used a chisel but it was hard to get straight cuts this way. Now I cut the foam using a cheap craft knife (the sort with the disposable blades that you break off). I set the knife so that it has the longest length of blade possible and just keep scoring the foam until it is cut through.

With N, I am using Kato mainly because of the ease of wiring the points. Have not secured the track as still planning layout but looks like it can be glued with PVA. The point wiring is doing quite a good job of securing it.

Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

Check out www.thegoodsyard.co.uk Have been there today (near Newark, Notts) and they will build your layout from a paper plan you supply, having converted it to a cad drawing. Can build from basic board to landscaped and fully wired layout.

Ah, I'd seen their whole-layout stuff before, but not registered that they also did just baseboards.  Thanks!
