Turntable sugestions

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for the best n gauge turntable.

I am only interested in the turntable as I have a reliable indexing mechanism using a stepper motor, gear box and a few electronics based around a PIC.

So I don't want to pay a fortune for one that comes with an indexing system.
It is for a British layout and so far I think the Peco one looks the best but unfortunately is probably the hardest to get running smoothly and reliably.

There are some mods you can do to the peco turntable to improve it. I've done the one where you fit some spare offcut wagon wheels in brass tubes to replace the moulded dummy wheels which reduces the friction as it turns. You can also supposedly replace the plastic rail around the circumference with an actual rail if you can get the bend right.

We have used a Peco turntable on Hoglington for several years. It is operated by a Frizinghall Models mechanism (manual version) but is otherwise mechanically unaltered.

The biggest issue was in aligning the mechanism so that the deck stayed level as it rotated. Once it was set up and working correctly it has been no trouble.

I have already made a full mock up using the peco with modified wagon wheels in brass tubes added but was not 100% satisfied and wondered what the alternatives were.
As it stands I am still intended to go with the Peco, maybe with a proper metal rail instead of the current one molded in plastic on the pit.
Other alternative is to build from scratch.

I am looking for a turntable too. Dc controlled.  Thinking one pushbutton for clockwise and one for anticlockwise.  But how would the indexing work?

Here's a Peco that was modified by a guy in Holland. It's fantastic.  In fact I have to contact him again soon now I think about it to get another done. Silky smooth operation.

I like the idea of wide rollers rather than the coach wheel modification.

Would love to know what he might charge for a set of rollers? I use a DC controller on a Peco table with one of those basic gearbox and motors

Interesting, who is this guy in Holland? Does he do this commercially or is he simply a gifted modeller?

He's had articles published in the NGS Journal and was responsible for some of the locos on one of the N Gauge Kings Cross layouts.
