No lights for steam

As I was told when working on a heritage railway for the first time "the hi vis jacket is so the driver knows he hit someone!"

Almost no UK steam locos carried electric lights, and certainly not high intensity lighting of any kind. The most famous counter-example being Big Bertha, which did carry a lamp of this kind because of its specific duties.

There is in fact between no and very little electrical anything on most UK steam locomotives, even the GWR ATC system was just a 4v 80Ah lead acid battery
