Makes me ashamed to be Scottish:-

Hehe nah, it's all part of the 'friendly rivalry'. Besides, did you read the bit in the article about him taking old football kits out for the Brazilian street kids? (it's not like the Scotland team needed them anyway ;) )

If I wanted to waste 2 hours watching sweaty guys desperately try to score, I'd go out drinking with my single buddies.

It looks like that the most successful England Team coach for 48 years ... will be the National Express from Heathrow Airport next week.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

You just had to watch the Uruguayans singing their anthem compared to our pathetic lot.
Overpaid, overpampered and lacking talent. And above all lacking desire and commitment !

Totally agree with you there. I thought the idea of football was to move the ball towards the opponents goal in order to put the ball in said goal. Our tactics seem to stop after a while so that we can pass back to the goalkeeper, to keep him awake I suppose!

Looks like the Italians learned something from England after all, then ::)
Costa Rica fully deserve to top that group, having played some great football :claphappy:

I'd agree with that.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Not sure whether I should put this in the "FOR SALE" section or not.

# Rake of 11 misfits that can loosely be described as "hoppers".

I plucked out slips of paper marked Germany and Italy in our draw for our team sweepstake at work ... at least both teams still have promise for getting to the knock-out stages ...

Actually England did win a World Cup this morning and better still the team retained the World Cup.

England won the Junior Rugby World Cup defeating South Africa 21-20.
So well done lads..

For info the 3rd/4th place play off finished win a win for New Zealand over Ireland 21-43 (I think)...

I know this will wind up a few but winning a rugby world cup is no where near as hard as a football world cup... There are probably 3/4 sides capable of winning it and no real qualification problems for the top nations..please bear in mind I'm welsh and I know my rugby...don't get me started on all those other minority spoorts such asthe mickey mouse sailing olympic gold medals...how many countries enter these sort of events...so footie world is definitely harder to win..I rest my case

Sparky,

You are right but winning a world championship is still a great achievement.

Do we measure sporting achievement by the number of people who participate in a specific sport?  I think if we did then winning the fishing world championship (if there is one) would be the #1 achievement in the world...

Depends if you regard fishing as sport. I regard it as a pastime like snooker or darts but if you want to
call it sport that's fine. According to the OED sport is a competitive activity involving physical effort and skill.
Many pastimes involve skill, but physical activity is not a major factor. I once took part in a fishing competition
and I've seen more activity on a bouncy castle !
