Recently purchased 2 toggle switches for point motors from a show. Done some wiring and fitted said switches to point motors on Apa Park. Not having found a suitable 16vac supply i decided to test using 12vdc. Fine i thought... wrong. One of the motors burnt out immediately. One of the switches is shorting to centre off. Meaning it was on all the time. Bit annoyed that this 50p switch has cost me a point motor.
Does anyone have one the can sell me? I dont want 5 from ebay and i dont want to pay daft postage charges from a shop.

I'm not a sparky, but could it not be the fact you used dc on an ac motor?

If you know the supplier, even at a show the suppliers should be reputable, you should approach them. You could even try to get them to give you a new motor as it was their switch which caused the problem, assuming that we are talking solenoid motor and passing contact switch.

Get yourself a CDU - its a worthwhile investment if you are using solenoid motors as you'll not only get a better throw but you'll save yourself any future point incineration.
