Trying to get my old Lima Skinhead running better and while it's apart, I thought I'd ask if anyone knew what the two black gizmos are that are soldered in between pickup and motor. I've seen other skinheads 'undressed' and have never seen these.

Sorry this is in the wrong place, I'm uploading from Blockbarry and I need to be somewhere on Wednesday.......

Thanks in advance
Mitch

Probably a choke in series for suppression. Can be used instead of a parallel capacitor.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Thanks Malc - even without the pic! (Total upload failure :veryangry:)

..............So, do I need 'em? What are they there for??

Malc

Without measuring them, it is entirely possible that they are dropper resistors and the loco has a 6v motor, not a 12v, so I would leave well alone.

Thanks again, Malc, finally managed to upload;

.....I hope!

Dr Al

They are not original and have been added by someone - I'd remove them...

Cheers,
Alan

If Dr Al is online he may be able to provide a more comprehensive answer.

Thanks Doc, that was exactly my (uneducated) opinion.

They'll be gone shortly.
#solderturmoil expect tears.

They look like suppression chokes to me.
