The phrase appears quite regularly on the forum so I looked it up in the Wiki dictionary :-

" A person who has an obsession with the minutae of their particular interest "

So there you go , any nominations for Rivet Counter of the year ?

It is all rather childish and bordering on offensive the way it is used.  Particularly to try and create divisions between us all - we are all railway modellers.

So what if some people are more interested in getting details correct (though increasingly it seems it is not just details, but fundamental body shapes etc) than others? It doesn't make either party a better or worse person.

We ALL accept compromises in different areas and prefer high standards in other areas.

So a plea, perhaps we can drop the use of terms like rivet counter/elitist etc - it puts people off using this forum.

Cheers, Mike

There is no section of modellers who should look down on another's efforts in any way, shape or form. What we do for fun is our own business unless we wish to broadcast it publicly, in which case we should be prepared for any criticism that may result.
Gag or not, by all means think it but please don't create a thread that can only engender ill feeling.
