BR Maroon Coaches and Early Crest

Having searched for the answer to this, I am completely confused.

Simply put, is it OK to run a Class 57xx Pannier Tank with an Early Emblem, with Maroon non-corridor brake composites coaches i.e. a B set, on a Somerset branch line?

Or do I need to change my order for said Loco to one with a Late Emblem...   :-\

It seems that there were a lot of changes going on in the 1956/7 period and I'm not sure what would be correct.

As far as I am aware that is fine, I think the B set coaches went straight from choc and cream into maroon as the crimson and cream was for mainline stuff rather than branch and suburban stock. I am sure I will be corected if not accurate.

I'm modelling in Scotland, not GWR country, but I have loads of pictures of Early Crest locos in 1959/1960/1961 pulling maroon stock - there was a large overlap there.

I second Dave's post, I too have evidence of early crest still being extant through early to mid sixties in Scottish Region. This applies not just to "less important" branch line engines but also mainline running BR Standards in some cases.

Thanks for that chaps, I have a just purchased a pair of 'new old stock' Dapol B set coaches and have pre-ordered one of Dapols new 57xx Pannier tanks with early crest due for release Jan/Feb 2014.  Then I got to thinking...

Anyway, I am now happy that they will all go very well together.

It is fine, many locos retained the early crest for some years aftr the introduction of maroon for the coaches, particularly humble panniers which would not have been prioritised for visits to the paint shop.

B-sets were generally painted in plain crimson in the early crest era along with other non-corridor stock. Dapol seems to have an aversion to plain crimson for some reason and have never released the B-sets, autocoach or Siphons in this livery despite it being the main one carried for most of the 1950s.

Fortunately it is also an easy one to paint yourself as I have done below.
