I need all the walls and the ceiling in my spare room plastering... in order that I can do my budgeting, does anyone have any idea of what I should be paying so I don't get ripped off? The room isn't rectangular but the average sizes are 11'6" long x 5'6" wide x 8'6 high.

Three of the walls are new plasterboard and the ceiling is plastered but I'd like it reskimming. The wall with the window is bare brick - I've hacked off all the old (unsound) plaster, which was fun, but I don't want it boarded and then plastered - would it have to be rendered first (the house is 1890's so the internal brickwork is a bit wonky) and then plastered?

Thanks for any advice!

If I were having the room skimmed, I would dab the wall first. ie fasten plasterboard on with dabs of adhesive, then get someone in to skim the wall. They can then do the job in one go. Otherwise they would have to do a scratch coat of browning, let it dry and then go over it in top cost. Takes about a day to dry enough to top coat. I don't know how much it would cost, but it would guess it would probably take a plasterer and a mate about a day, maybe 2.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

If you're having plasterers in the house; my advice is to get extra sugar for the tea.

I would go for dot a dab on the bare brick wall, so much quicker, easier and cheaper, as for a price on the whole room expect to pay around £150 inc the dot and dab work plus materials.

My gaffers son as just had a room re-plastered and it cost £350 not sure if materials were in that as well, that is up North.

I have just had my own bedroom done, 12x12x8 foot high, 4 walls and ceiling £95 labour only and it is a perfect finish.

Materials used= 5 bags multifinish, 4 skim beads and 2.5L unibond.
