Bowing to the growing call for the new doctor to be female, the BBC finally capitulated.
Unfortunately, the actors contract had already been signed.

One of the creepiest DW monster/alien/strange things was the sort
of Louis 14th/ Charles II robot a few years ago, can't remember
the plot, too busy hiding behind the sofa. :D

It was 'The Girl in the Fireplace'. Gods I'm such a geek!

At least the scenery didn't move (e.g. huge boulders) as it often did when Cap'n Kirk got in yet another human to alien brawl!

Just going off topic a moment, Blake's 7 was the worst for moving scenery ;D

ozzie Bill.

maybe the scenery moved in Blakes 7, but the girl playing Callie? was fit. at least, I remember her as being fit, but it was a long time ago!Cheers, Bill.

On the subject of Blake's 7 there was talk of a new series being made, well according to the beeb that is. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22079232

Avon was always a favourite of mine...did he die or not I seem to remember was a big cliff-hanger!

I remember watching the very first episode back in the dim and distant 60's, I seem to remember that the first show went off about halfway through for some reason and the following Saturday they showed it again immediately followed by episode 2. It was ground breaking television for kids at the time, we had never seen anything like it and was a huge success, especially the Daleks. I must admit I have not watched if for many years, but still pleased it is still running.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

He was still alive standing astride Blakes dead body as the screen went black to the sound of gunfire at the end of the last episode. In 'Afterlife', the book that followed this episode, both Avon and Villa were alive and kicking.

He's the 2nd Scottish actor to play the doctor, so they don't have to be English as someone said earlier!  :P

Putting my Mr Pedantic hat on (see, here it is:  :dunce: ), he's the third Scottish actor to play the part. Sylvester McCoy was the first, and he was followed by David Tennant (who opted not to use his own accent). Apart from that, they've all been English. Although I'm convinced that Tom Baker was always an alien, even before he played the part of an alien  :D

Your pedantic hat is right. Three scots docs!
Tom Baker is not an alien, though he may not be on planet earth sometimes!
Jelly baby anyone?

The first episode was repeated because President Kennedy was shot on that first weekend, screwing up all the schedules and audience figures (just how inconsiderate can you get!).

Now that really puts it in perspective how long the program has been running!
