Getting back on topic, I think Peter Capaldi is a great choice.
An older doctor hasn't been done for a while so will make a nice change.
He's the 2nd Scottish actor to play the doctor, so they don't have to be English as someone said earlier!  :P
Plus, he's the first doctor with a quiff!  :D
As a life long DW fan, since the Tom Baker days anyway, I eagerly await his debut!  :)

I was at work when the program was on. I got a random text message from my wife saying "Peter Capaldi"

I sent text back saying "who"

I got one back saying "yes"

I never really got into the earlier DW although I do remember seeing an episode with Tom Baker with that strange coat...

For me DW started with David Tennant who really sold DW to me and i've watched it ever since, Peter Capaldi should be another great doctor - now bring on the daleks !
If it's got rails... you have my full, undivided attention - Steam, diesel and electric, 'tis all good !

Ah, the scarf.... Tom is so memorable even Family Guy included him in the Star wars spoof 'Blueharvest' !

Brilliant! And no-one who's seen it could forget him as Captain Rum in Blackadder  ;D
But have you seen him as Rasputin?

Why are Cyber men so pants?

They are not very scary and move at the same speed as snails.

Daleks are creepy, and those angel things that come after you when you dont look at them scare me rigid. Cyber men though, just tin cans and the worst DW baddies ever!

I'd forgotten about 'the Angels' !  They are genuinely scary... Not bad for a pre watershed program.

The Tardis looks to be in good hands, according to IO9...

Neil Gaiman has gone on record to say the role for Doctor 12 was originally offered to a black actor, who turned it down. One in the eye for all those "middle-aged white guy" moaners!  :)

I go back to the very first DW with William Hartnell shown in stunning 405 line B&W definition.

My favourite was Patrick Troughton (Doc No 2) although Tom Baker did make an impression!

Still watch and enjoy it and am looking forward to the new series. It will be interesting to see how the Doc's personality changes.

DW started for me with Jon Pertwee and ended when Tom Baker left. Never did find it scary even then and just lost interest after that, haven't watched it since :D

Not my type of programme now but amazed it's still going :)

The original Cyber men wore fast jet suits on back to front. The pipework on their chests were vacuum cleaner hoses!

Brilliant sci-fi fun on a tiny budget. Excellent use of cheap materials.

At least the scenery didn't move (e.g. huge boulders) as it often did when Cap'n Kirk got in yet another human to alien brawl!

Putting my Mr Pedantic hat on (see, here it is:  :dunce: ), he's the third Scottish actor to play the part. Sylvester McCoy was the first, and he was followed by David Tennant (who opted not to use his own accent). Apart from that, they've all been English. Although I'm convinced that Tom Baker was always an alien, even before he played the part of an alien  :D

One of the creepiest DW monster/alien/strange things was the sort
of Louis 14th/ Charles II robot a few years ago, can't remember
the plot, too busy hiding behind the sofa. :D

Also the giant cat /nuns, weird maaan !
