Hi Gang,

A Cornish retailer is advertising the arrival of said model (371-558).  this seems to have sneaked into the country under the radar and there seems to be no pics yet.

Although I very much doubt improvements to the body have been made, the finish should be good and I suppose the Bachmann price-fix will apply, meaning no great discount for initial purchases.

Hopefully some pics soon!!!

I always find things in the last place I look. weird huh??

371-558 has been in stock since Tuesday with numerous retailers
However, odd that it is not on the Bachmann website...
Equally, stock levels seem to be very low with most only having received two

I have finally managed to find a picture and it simply looks like a new livery on the latest BachFar chassis, as it is not listed as DCC

Prices are also discounted, the cheapest I can find is £87 (excluding delivery)

Adam1701D

It's a bog-standard Farish 158 with Chinese chassis, so no DCC or lights, despite the price.

Without opening a new can or worms, I really think these older models should be in some sort of "Railroad" range, as they don't cut it against the latest masterpieces.

Totally agree.
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

With Bachmann's 15% cap on discount the cheapest this model should be available is £103.66. If Bachmann find out it's being sold less than this then they could stop supplying to the stockist so i'd suggest discussing the name via PM just in case.

Yes a year or two ago I adapted a 2nd hand 158 bought from E Bay using Adam's Saltire vinyls.  Very nice it looks and the whole exercise cost me less that £50.

With apols to Adam there was another player in the field from whom I aquired 1st Scotrail barbie sides to convert both a motorised and a dummy unit - again carefully chosen E Bay items.  Result is motorised 158s in Swoosh (original Farish), Barbie and Saltire with a Barbie dummy to make a 4 car set with any of the other units.  Every permutation.  Bliss.

I have a feeling that would end up in court on competition law charges.

I have noted that SRP is used, and as far as I am aware it is no longer permitted to use Statutory Retail Price (previously Statutory Selling Price)

From what I can work out the RRP is £121.95
However a retailer would be quite within their rights to sell such an item for any price they see fit

As an example I purchased a Farish Class 47 Rowland Hill for £65 this morning, and that is well below the SRP of £107.95

The 15% Cap only applies for the first 8 weeks of a models release, after that the stockist can sell the item for however much they please.

The Class 47's were part of Bachmann's November sale hence why many places have/had them for sale fairly cheaply.

That's interesting to know...the answer is to wait a couple of months for the bigger discounts!  >:D

(Providing it hasn't sold out of course...)
