update:  i have FAILED the challenge.  I bought two coaches on ebay (HO scale Marklin ones), and then my only analogue controller i use to test run things broke, so i replaced it with a new gaugemaster one.

Not a massive spend.... but none the less, I have failed, and as such I am off now to demand to be sectioned and placed under the care of the state... for my own good...

At least you didn't buy a class 66 which turned up with a missing bogey and the one present had all the gears removed by the seller who "Completely Forgot" they were not in it  ... but the description said "Runs Smoothly" ... well the motor did DOH !!  :'(

I, too, have since failed. I've gone and bought an airbrush hose and cleaning brush set, from a certain well known auction site.

I haven't bought anything since the Doncaster show weekend.I fully intend that this will be the case until the York Exhibition where at least a couple of sound decoders will be bought so I can add a couple more conversions to my portfolio.

I have a Farish class 50 on my workbench awaiting disassembly and then chassis mods to be undertaken so the speaker and decoder will fit.Next up will be a Farish Peak D187 which looks as tricky as my class 40 Whistler.

So for March,I may get away with not buying anything at all thats model railway related and thats without trying,so all you chaps and chappesses that are trying not to spend money, take a tip from the not so ancient philosopher,Homer J Simpson.

"You've tried your best and failed miserably. My advise, don'try."

Hi Gang,

Bought nothing so far in the first 6 days of the month....must be a record for me.

As I am overseas till Easter, I may survive the month with no personal purchases....however, my proxy buyer is probably going to pick me up some stuff at Ally Pally or elsewhere in my absence....does that count.

Later,
Stu in OAKN.
A selection of my pictures, real & model ARE NOW to be found at...

I always find things in the last place I look. weird huh??

Hi Stu

As I will owe you for the Western trip, there will be no money changing hands, therefore you can claim the buy nothing month. BTW, I much prefer the job title of personal shopper rather than proxy buyer!

Regards to alll

Still had a good result this week. Mrs "H" was rushed to the Hospital on Monday with a burst stomach ulcer. Unaware she had one so it was a "bit of a shock".
Must say Italian Hospitals are wonderful, Wards divided into rooms with only 3 to a room (space for a 4th bed) visiting 7:00 to 22:00 and FREE PARKING!!

Was discharged last night and has to eat cold food for a week, other than that she is much improved form. Made a change for her to visit A&E....
Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

I hope Mrs H recovers quickly, that must have been a frightening experience.

cheers John.

For "Buy Nothing" month read as "Spend the most" month for me - not only did I buy a set of Fleischmann PKP coal hoppers, I also earlier in the month got a couple of building kits, and some trucks at a couple of shows, as well as some track cleaning materials!  :-[
LNER and PKP fan in the home of the GWR!
