Have to admit that in the Leyland/Chorley area of Lancashire we have nothing, but I have seen many cars this morning with snow on 'em joining the M61 :hmmm:

The weather people go over the top these days definitely.
Yesterday I heard them going on about "Bitterly Cold" at 5 degrees.
When I was a boy bitterly cold meant about -8!
And we were still at school even with heating frozen up. Had to keep our coats on !!
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Yup - the media are too quick to say we have 'Arctic conditions'
Get real :veryangry:

In the days when service actually meant something to those that provided it, we spent some money so that we were prepared for such things as snow and maintenance took into account that this country is wet a lot of the time but now that the business world has convinced us that everything can be cheap as chips we then wonder why these services don't work as well as they used to. well let me suggest the possible reasons:
GOOD SERVICE NEEDS ENOUGH EXPERIENCED PEOPLE & QUALITY EQUIPMENT TO PROVIDE IT AND THAT COSTS TOO MUCH MONEY FOR THE ACCOUNTANTS WHO RUN MOST BUSINESSES THESE DAYS AS IT GETS IN THE WAY OF THEIR BIG PROFITS, AND THEREFORE THEIR HUGE BONUSES.

The media have been hyping it up since before the weekend, scaring people with headlines like "Three Weeks of Chaos" and quoting various ridiculous depths of snow likely ::)

I've just come home past Luton Airport and there is the minutest dusting of snow on the grass, still see lots of green though, and nothing lying elsewhere, yet they're warning there could be disruption!

Watched the BBC news this morning (or was it yesterday ? ), WARNING up to 3 cm of snow !!!!. Here the weather forecast for tonight says we may have 5.4 cm of snow described as moderate.....

DONT PANIC !!!!
Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

Getting the excuses in early  ;) ;)

So when the whole country grinds to a halt, because we've had more than 2 flakes of snow. They can come out and say "see we told you so...."

Cynical or what  :D :D

Regards

Neal.

P.S. Not even a hint of a flake of snow down here in deepest Wiltshire.

Being a bus driver,I see and hear this stuff every winter, ooh its gonna be cold,it'll snow and be chaotic, etc, etc. The thing is,the human condition kicks in every time.
We have the AA,RAC and various other organisations telling us not to venture out or make any unnecessary journey's.Now I'm sorry but if we have to go out for whatever reason,is this assumed to be an unnecessary journey or not?
If I go out to work,is that unnecessary, seeing as if I don't go and nor do my colleagues, all those that relie on us don't either so what are we meant to do?
Over in countries such as Finland,Sweden and other european countries, they have more snow for more of the time than us and cope amazingly well.In this country there is too much emphasis on health and safety.Let peiple lead their lives how they want to and stop the nannying.I thought the nanny state ended when Commander Brown lost his job.Lets get rid of the useless quango's that spout this nonesense and give us our sense of pride back in going that extra mile to provide the services, manufacture the goods, etc which we do throughout the rest of the year without a second thought.
And also, wmploy people that can read the weather instead of saying its gonna be cold when its winter. We know it'll be cold,it was last year and the year before that.We night have snow,we mught not.Again, its winter,it happens.
I get so fed up with all this talk that I stop watching the news and weather forecasts because even the weather presenters have to stick their oar in.
Leave us alone,we're not kids.
Anyway, rant now over, its a bit slippy out there.
Be careful everyone.

I must admit to not missing all the stupid hype that follows the first snow flake of the year in the UK. I too believe that we have become soft-bellied and any excuse is a valid one. It's no better here at times though as coin people complain when its hot here and talk about heat waves as soon as the temp reaches 40 degrees.

Still look on the bright side fellow UK members it will not be long before there'll be the cry of "Flood" as it all melts, swiftly followed by the preparation for droughts in March.

You are not far wrong there, the water table is so high that when the snow melted some of the roads were flooded yesterday and my car got rather a dirty shower!

Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy
