..  but there is little information and refers to a prototype viewing at the Liverpool Show - but it could just as easily refer to the Sydney Exhibition held in the suburb of Liverpool!!

Why re-invent the wheel?  The modern Farish Class 158/170 chassis (not the spring drive version) works for most UK DMUs or EMUs. It is already a 23m chassis and is easily adapted to 20m (63ft) because of the alternative bogie pivot points.

We've already got a few chassis that have adjustable bogie pivot points; the Farish 158/170 (as Mike says) and the TPM MUM has a more limioted choice of positions IIRC. Plus there's the latest class 101/108 Farish chassis that with only one bogie powered is easy to install with different bogie centre distances (and is DCC ready).

The problem with 'overseas/non British' chassis is that usually the bogie wheelbase is too short (and won't be adjustable), the wheel diameter is too small and the bogie side frames are incorrect.

Now a lot of Farish HST power cars are reaching retirement age, the Chinese-built chassis, minus one bogie, provides more than enough power for the average unit.

It would be good if we could persuade Dapol or Bachmann to release the 121 or 411 chassis as a spare.

The new motor bogie chassis are also pretty useful. Especially the parcel set where both are powered. With a spot of weight they'll handle four coaches.
