Double Stack Aussie style

Hi guys
Whilst watching some locos over in Adelaide the other day, noticed that a large freight train was also pulling a normal carriage behind the double header. (sorry forgot camera, so no original pics). Have since discovered that this appears to be the norm in Oz on these long-haul trains and have since found further evidence on YouTube. The carriage is for a second traveling crew.

Not seen this anywhere else. Wondered if  anyone had ?

sounds like what my wife got when she was helping my stepson with his homework for geography on the kalahari,  you dont type bush women into google image search with a 12 year old around thats for sure... unless you want to do a lot of explaining and listening to his sniggering.

All but the 3 blondes, they appeared when I was doing some WW1 research and typed in big bazookas.

Apologies to tdu for the others hijacking your thread. I'm guessing the coach behind the loco is due to long journeys without (?) stopping and the restrictions of the working times directive.

The double stackers have been crossing between Parkes NSW and Perth for the past 3 or 4 years, sadly they could not get enough motive power in Oz so the imported about a dozen German engined Chinese built locos to fill the gap.

All the information is there in 'Motive Power' and 'Railway Digest' Magazines, SCT being the biggest carrier.

Don`t be silly.Most of them have got under axle passages built into the engine and tender nowadays

Quite a number of these 'crew car' carriages  were formerly broad gauge SAR Bluebird Railcars, what a waste!

I get plenty of these mixed freights going through near.work and there are some interesting combinations.
