60 years on, I found this beauty on that auction site.

It runs just as effortlessly as the one I had in 1965. I don't mind that it's got moulded handrails or bright wheels. This is the reason for making space in my stock drawers :)

I have that version of the UM B12 too, it isn't the most recent incarnation - Colin retooled it about 8 years back to sit a tad lower and it used the D16/3 tender from then on, but that one has a solid dependable tender-drive that pulls very well. The B12 is amongst my fave locos, 8572 pulled our wedding train on the NNR when we got married and I was allowed up onto the footplate for the run-round at Holt  :)

I had one before and foolishly sold it. Really pleased to have replaced it.  I don't think 61572 was ever done in retooled form, so this is the one for me.

They do sit a little high but then again a lot of UM seem high and/or oversized compared with other manufacturer's models. But they have covered locos ignored in the main by the bigger manufacturers. They are full of character. Hand built. Just nice to have them in my collection, which are mostly SR (700, 0395, and T9) and GW (City, 2251).

Nice. Just needs a Farish Mk1 CK and BSK in Crimson & cream to finish off the train.

Winston Churchill - on its way from Dapol. Three green Mk 1 coaches (CK/RMB/BSK) - tick
M7 with firebox glow - tick (without firebox glow!)
Royal Mail sorting coach - tick, but not a working one.
Battle Space helicopter car and Giraffe car - might struggle to find the equivalent in N

Bealman

Indeed... (please note that this was pre-Battle Space)  ;D

Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Mmm I had a yellow helicopter. And yes it was pre Battle Space. But I thought most folk would not realise that the models came out pre Battle Space. The exploding car was originally in black, for example.

It would be interesting to make the helicopter car for N Gauge. Should be able to make the helicopter light & stable enough to launch somehow too :)
