What are the differences between the Dapol Grange and Manor models?
I want to have a Manor on my layout but these are out of stock everywhere.
Granges are available and look very similar.
Only difference I could find is an enclosure on the footplate above the motion on the Manor where the Grange seems to have a support bracket for the boiler in the same position?
Are there other differences apart from name and numberplates?

Reason I want a Manor is that these were lighter and more in place on a branch line.
I could renumber a Grange if differences are small.

They both had that bracket and enclosure forward of the leading splasher.

The principle difference, however, is that the Manors had a smaller boiler than the Granges and were, consequently, shorter (by a couple of feet) and lighter.

Thanks!
I now see that the smokebox of the Grange is longer than that of the Manor.
It quite noticable if you know it so I'll drop the renumber idea.

I'm not sure about the smokebox being longer, but the Grange boiler and firebox are - as well as bulkier.

Two manors on eBay, personal view the manors run better than the granges. That's based on me running four manors and a Grange

The Dapol Collett 3000gall tenders suffer from poor pick-up design and this is particularly problematic when these are paired with Granges. I've had 3 or 4 of this combination and all have been poor runners. The Granges with 4000gall tenders perform much better.

I just noticed this thread, both Grange and Manor had the same size driving wheels bogies and wheelbase the Manors had a smaller boiler (standard No14) whereas the grange had the same boiler as the Hall (standard No1) the Granges were often referred to  as a "Manor with a hall boiler" or a "Hall with Manor wheels. what was generally different between the two  was that all of the Manors generally were coupled to Churchward type 3500 Gallon tenders, but the Granges had a mixture of Churchward type 3500, Collet intermediated 3500 and 4000 gallon tenders. the Manors carried Blue route availability discs for lighter lines like the Cambrian route. and the Granges had red discs for the main routes (please note that Dapol incorrectly applied blue route discs to both Halls and Granges)

Hope this helps
