I honestly can't see a problem with a modelling knife and some glue in your hold luggage (take that from someone who flies for a profession), although I've never flown into Mexico and I rarely fly in or out of the UK, so Mark might have some info. that's pertinent to Mexico.

FWIW, the issues, if there are any, will be with local customs (again, I cannot imagine why, but I've never been to Mexico), they almost certainly won't be with airport security.

I am aware that the US is notorious for opening people's suitcases after you have checked them in. Mexico "might " be the same, but it should only really be to check for prohibited / security risk items.

Twice we have been to Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific side and both for 2 weeks at a time and I take books to read and have never found the time to read them with everything else that is going on.
Swimming with Dolphins
Jungle Safari
Looking for Jaguars in the jungle and eating termites, which are very nice B.T.W
Jet Skiing
Para gliding
Scuba diving
counting iguana's on the hotel roof
counting geckos that are living in your wardrobe and run across the hotel room ceiling when you sleep at night
drinking tequila and everything else, as its all free where we stay.
And there is loads more to do.

And last time we where there I got walloped in the eye from some huge beetle that decided to fly into my head whilst walking with the wife along the beach.

But I'm sure liquid cement glue would be OK in the hold as it is flammable and would not be allowed in the hand luggage.

But why pay over a grand for a holiday with a 15 hour flight getting there with plans to build a model kit?

Every evening there is a mini tropical storm with a bit of rain 5-10 min's at the most, but its great watching the lightning over the sea in the distance.
