Not sure if anyone else has written about this. It was a very enjoyable day indeed with many bargains to be had and some interesting announcements.

I picked up some stupidly cheap locos which were returns etc. Most are now running well and the other are good for parts.

The factory tour and presentation were very interesting. I didn't even realise they still made their wagons at the factory.

Everyone, including people like Joel and Dave were there to answer questions and the atmosphere was very friendly.

Do you have to be a Dapol club member to attend or can general public go along after buying a ticket?

It is free to go but you have to be a club member. The club is extremely good value and the price to join includes a wagon, catalogue and many other items.
The open day is well worth joining for. bargains galore and free food etc too.

Thanks for the advice  I'm going to look at joining. It sounds worth it for the bargains and let's not forget the food

I probably should keep quiet about it  ;)
It's my first year of membership and I have found it very positive so far.

I emailed them, after they emailed the club members - and was ignored ...

Can't say I'm impressed with the Club ...

Did you specifically ask for a reply (rather than just making a comment) and follow it up with them? It's not unheard of for emails to go astray. A point of contact that I've noticed does seem to get regular answers is their exclusive forum.

Yes, I was explicitly asking a question regarding the Open Day

But did you follow it up in case it went astray?

No, because I had many more important things to do (eg OU exams).

Hi Mike,

Why not give them a ring (01691 774455) when time permits and ask for Nicola.  Nicola runs the club and shop at Dapol and is very helpful.
In the meantime good luck with the exams...R
Best regards

Seeing as the Open Day has been and gone (and fortunately so did the exams this past 2 weeks) ... not much point now.

I was there, extremely good value for money if you ask me. Plenty of good stock, no one bumping into you or pushing in like you can get at Exhibitions and despite having to wait 1h30min to get to see the factory floor it was still all definatly worth it. Staff were also very polite and friendly.

I also picked up a cheap QCP? loco for £10 and I can't see anything wrong with it. Was planning to strip it down and use it as a double header. My Bro gave me the idea, but as its working, I'm not sure I want to strip it down. Guess I got lucky on it as my Brothers one doesn't work  :P

I've just joined up and will be going in 2013, but it's not just for the open day - loads of 'members only' offers have passed me by and lots more good ones in the pipeline... I just had to join up !  :)

I have moaned countless times at Dapol, but they are improving all the time and are starting to  produce some great models.
If it's got rails... you have my full, undivided attention - Steam, diesel and electric, 'tis all good !
