  I think the replies have been hilarious lads, we don't just have model railways and trains in general in common but us married blokes also use similar ways of keeping the peace when bringing things home or being delivered 

Its amazing really, my missus can go out and spend a small fortune on makeup and clothes and I tell her its great, I guess thats just my way of justifying the train stuff I buy but I do get fed up of her telling me to go and buy new slippers or underpants, thats train money 

Well i'm off to do some work on my N Gauge layout now so thanks for the replies and a good laugh 

Not fully chained up yet (though we are shortly to go to our 6th wedding of the year together...oh er  )...however beloved is most encouraging of the n gauge.

This evening she was more upset than me when I missed out on an eBay item. Won't say which one, least one of you fine gents turn out to be they guy I was bidding against (fair game, you got me!), but she was defo more miffed than me.

Lets hope she feels the same when Warley arrives....

Not going to say welcome back as it would appear you never left.

I now always make sure I leave for exhibitions with a box - lots of paper in the bottom, one layer of trains/rolling stock on top. "Stuff for tessting" I say.

Same box comes home - Same layer on top, goodies underneath.

So Far So good, but I think SWMBO might suspect. If I suddenly stop posting - look out for the abituary.

Mr. trainsdownunder. Be careful how you phrase things. Have you not heard of Carry On films!

As some of you will know Clare came to TINGS with me, very good at hunting for scenic stuff for the layout (bought some station signs from Richard's stand that she spotted but I didn't ), and points out interesting bits on the layouts.

We also have a policy that whatever money is left each month after all the bills are paid is split 50/50 and we spend it on what we want, no questions. Makes for a peaceful existence I keep a full spreadsheet of Layout Costs on my laptop without need for passwords or the like, she can look at it if she wants as I have nothing to hide.

One final comment: when she spent a week visiting her parents in Scotland recently I took the opportunity to have the layout up in the lounge and fully test everything. The reason I waited until then was because it does rather take over the house:-

Crikey Paul you must be one of the luckiest lads on the forum, if my wife told me she wanted to play trains when she got home she would have to hurry back because I would need mouth to mouth.

In all fairness though she does tolerate my crazy ways and very often asks if I have enough money on me when I go to my mates second hand train shop every Saturday, she just doesn't like me dismantling layouts and starting again.

She does buy them Mike but I also opened a small account at the cheapest mens clothing shop in Oz and that didn't make her very happy
