I have  been trying to build up a couple of small rakes of  Farish BR Mark 1 coaches in maroon livery via eBay but am getting confused by the numbers the carriages carry and wonder if some one can help me.

Am I right in thinking that the letter prefix of E, M or W indicates the BR region they were allocated to and that you would NOT normally see a rake with differing prefixes?

So far I have 1 each of  - BCK, FK, SK, BSK but covering all "3 of the above Regions",  whilst I am mainly interested in trying to model an ex LMS line.

Apart from actually seeing the item (or a good none stock photo) is there any way of determining what the prefix will be from the Farish Catalogue number or some other way ?

Any advice or info would be much appreciated.

one option would be to remove the numbers and replace them with Railtec transfers.

Steve is very helpful, and if he hasn't got them in his range he will produce custom transfers at a very reasonable price, and they are very good quality.

the only down side is that his sheets come with the whole sheet varnished, and you then need to trim around the transfer, where some others, such as Fox, come with varnish just on the transfer.

no connection with Railtec, other than as a very satisfied customer.

You are quite correct about the W,S,M etc denoting the BR region.
This site might help you with the older Farish coaches as it lists the running numbers for each Farish reference.

Unfortunately renumbering is not an option at moment Alan as I have right wrist in plaster awaiting a scan.
