Gasp! Horror! Shock!

The Beeb actually devoted a few minutes on 'Breakfast' this morning to the fact there's a motorcycle race on at Silverstone this weekend. Wonders will never cease. (in the same way they'll never mention gridiron unless somehow Taylor Swift is involved )

Of course, they made a thing of it being 50 years since good ole Barry Sheene won the first of his two world championships but also featured Cal Crutchlow in the piece.
Strange really as Cal, great bloke though he is, is unlikely to be troubling the leaderboard and there's absolutely no comparison between bikes, field numbers and safety between today's racing and that of 50 years ago.

Still, as far as motor sport goes, any coverage is good coverage with the Beeb and it is good to recall we had world champions in both 2 wheeled and 4 wheeled racing at the same time (Sheene and James Hunt 1976).

Beware, however, the Beeb can and will tell you the result just when you don't want to hear it!

I still miss Formula One coverage opening with "The Chain" - and, of course, the inestimable Murray getting his tongue ahead of his brain  in the commentary.

Indeed, for what it's worth Channel Four do do the F1 highlights shows very well apart from the blasted adverts - but I always have to avoid looking at the BBC News website between the real end of a qualifying session or race and the end of C4s highlights show. You can't even just avoid the Sport part of the BBC website as they'll sometimes drop the result in on one of the News pages

I, too, miss dear old Murray, especially when he commentated in cahoots with James Hunt - a great pairing
Likewise I watch F1 on Ch4 as I refuse to line Sky's pockets, although, as you say, it has limitations as to screening times which means blanking any programme likely to carry the result until I've seen the show
