Define "generic"?

If you're modelling certain eras or locations then the likes of the Baby Deltic or a 21/29 are key parts or making the scene complete. A 37 or 47 just wouldn't be the same.

I hope the Baby Deltic sells well. I hope a 21 or 29 gets made. I have no use for either class but hope that a 25/3 will follow them!

Completely off-topic (which was about upgraded versions of existing models) not models produced for the first time...
I'm sure it wasn't the intent, but both of those comments (and a few others) come across as "I don't want it, so nobody should be able to have one..."

Taken to the extreme "Not making something that not everybody will want" would mean no Diesel Locos would ever be produced because "not everybody will want one" and no GWR steam locos because only a tiny minority want one of those...

Don't take what I say the wrong way, I think that the baby deltic is a great idea and I expect it will sell well. But from a buisness point of view I just don't get it. Yes they will sell but will they sell enough to make a profit? How many do they have to make and sell to get the percentage that they need?
Maybe I'm just being grumpy?

Also when I say 'generic' I mean a locomotive found everywhere. Take an 0-4-0 peckett, used all over the place, used by mainline companies and industrial ones, where in use from pregrouping times, upto and beyond nationalisation.

I'm definitely being grumpy, I'm going to go and play with my trains...

While I sing the praises of many older models many times - this is a no brainer - the new V2 is infinitely better than the original, so very very recommended. It looks better (detail, paint finish, wheels, no boiler skirt, correct loco ride height), pulls better, runs smoother, is DCC ready (if you need that).

I will retain a few of my originals - because they've been heavily worked on to improve them, but they will see far less running in future.

The same is true for the Rapido Peaks 44, 45, 46. These are superb models, and while the old Farish model is a good model, it really shows its age and errors next to the new models. The wide bogies, and the body or cab fronts aren't shaped right - the central window is not wide enough. Running of the old model is good, but even with fastidious servicing and adjustment, the Rapido is far superior.

As such, for me the Farish Peaks have had their time and will be moved on. The Rapido models are very fairly priced I think also.

The Farish 37 is again a no-brainer for me. The old model is stretched to fit a 47 chassis, so is too long. The old model was charactersome, but does fundamentally date from 40+ years ago.
