Sorry for digging up this old thread but I wondered how any customers who have bought stuff weathered by Rails have got on recently. I only ask as I'm helping a fellow Men's Shed member to build an OO layout, and he has just bought one of the new Rapido Met Tanks weathered by them. It was a poor runner on DC and we struggled to get it going at all on DCC. I took it home last night and cleaned the wheels today. All were dirty, covered in overspray I suspect. Surely they should check to see if things run OK after weathering? Or am I just a poor deluded old g@t?!

I doubt they test them. Spray, box, go. Not surprised there's overspray on the wheels, disappointing as that is.

My recent "lightly weathered" Class 41 was just fine.

I'm probably biased but from what I've seen of Rails Custom Weathering, I'm not impressed at all.

£30 for a quick spray of thick brown along the chassis, not even being bothered to get an even covering on wheels under the valve gear etc.. No variation in colour, not even real coal added.

Not even cleaning the locos after weathering is just plain lazy. Of course weathering is very subjective and what might look fine to one can be overdone to another. In my opinion, people are better paying a bit extra for splendid jobs by Tom Foster, GC Weathering or Weathering Works, or even myself who only charges £25 per loco.
