Just read that Neil Armstrong has died aged 82.

I remember watching our old B&W TV in 1969 when I was 6, and seeing him walk on the moon!

Great shame :( I too remember those fuzzy pictures and the incredible sense of achievement by those guys

Caz

Shame, he was such an icon in space travel, was it really that long ago they went to the moon.  I too remember how our whole family sat up watching those fantastic scenes.  R.I.P.

One of my first ever memories that I can recall that are mine (landing on the moon)  and not someone telling me about it.
RIP Neil.

I read recently he has been in hospital for treatment.
Only eleven other men ever walked on the moon after he took that first great step.
I too will never forget that moment that united every nation in that achievemment of mankind.

John.

NTrain

I remember being very excited as we were due to get our first ever colour TV and was worried that I might miss the lift off.

and yes, I did get to see blast off in colour.

Agrippa

Very sad news, the first human to walk on
another world. In 1000 years he will rank
among the greatest of explorers.

In 30-40 years perhaps humans may
return to The Moon or go to Mars,
the pace of technology has advanced
at an incredible pace.

Hard to believe that a mere 30 years
before the Apollo programme  WW2
amd the Holocaust was starting.

I  remember the night Neil  landed on the moon we all  rushed up to a friends house who had a television,  including myself although i  cant rememeber seeing it live being a wee chap  (6)  i  fell  asleep  i think in my mothers arms.

Yes John Neil  amstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery earlier this month to relieve blocked coronary arteries,  R.I.P.

Neil  you will  be missed  thank  you for helping to pioneeer space travel & exploration.

I remember only to clearly rushing outside and staring hard at the moon through my 'toy' telescope hoping to be able to see them and their craft.

RIP to an icon of my childhood and a crew who inspired me to save my pocket money so I could go and buy an 'Airifx' kit of the rocket complete with detachable capsule and lunar landing module. Had great building, painting and playing with it.

:thankyousign:

Do  you remember the smell  of  the gloss white paint Colin which  seemed to take ages to dry with the Airfix  paint tins which  werent as wide /stable as Humbrols  & tended to get knocked over easier.

 :laughabovepost: Yes only too well.

My Mother still reminds me of the mess I used to create back then when ever my layout gets mentioned.

Don't remember it at all . . .

. . . being still in the womb may have something to do with it :D I still maintain that I deliberately delayed my appearance in the world for a further 10 days so as not to steal their thunder ;)

RIP Neil
