which is the best model?

is it better to have all farish, all peco or all minitrix, or does a mixture look perfectly fine?

if you want to buy about 20 HAA wagons cheap where would you look???!!!!

cheers,

The Minitrix ones are good, the Peco ones are really good as are the Farish.

My preference (by a narrow margin) is the Peco ones re-fitted with the correct metal wheels. There are subtle differences in look whcih I think are really just about paint texture etc.

I actually have a Minitrix rake because they' would go around 6" curves as was necessary for my little BP&GV layout. Unfortunately the new 08 wouldn't so it's had to have surgery so the 08/9 can run on it as well as the 03s

No wrong choice IMHO. Peco ones are lighter which may be a factor.

Hattons have the HFA on offer at the moment, £22 for 4, the cheapest I've found. You can soon remove the hoods.

cheers for replies

i think the peco ones are too expensive to buy 20 of them...

i'll look out for some farish ones going cheap...

yes saw those ones on hattons but they are transrail...  i'd like railfreight red really, maybe with a few coal sector ones...

cheers

Look out for the Peco Anniversary CDA hoppers in bargain bins, thats how I built my rakes...for the princely sum of £4 per CDA. All thats needed is to pull off the CDA hood and end covers, fill the holes with styrene rod and flat it back and then to strip off the CDA livery with Mr Muscle oven cleaner. The hoppers can then easily be painted with silver car paint in bulk, I used one of the Mercedes based silvers if I recall, and had 10 stripped down and repainted within a few hours.

edit ~

CDA reverse conversion back to HAA...with a little patience and modelling its definately possible to get a good rake on a shoestring budget ;D

Alternatively, just remove the T logo from the hopper side of the Farish HFA then you have a railfreight red HFA. Pull off the hood and you have a HAA which would only need a transfer change of the vehicle type and running number if you wish..

Options for you! hope it's not too confusing!

Nice looking layout Zunnan.
