Hi all



I am changing to n gauge I wish to sell my collection of oo gauge models

I have seen the adverts for the big model railway shops offering to buy collections such as Rail of Sheffield I have a few questions



1. has anybody used this service or know if any of the Scottish model shops offer a model collection buying service?



2. Do the models need to be catalogued before the shop will collected them?



3. Would it be better to take a few trips to a local car boot sale until it is all sold?



I would like to hear from or speak to anybody who has switched from oo to n and sold the collection or anybody that has

used one of the big model shops to sell or a person from a big model shop who could tell me how it all works

IMHO you won't get much out of the shops if you sell to them

You will probably be better off advertising them on Fleabay, or an OO forum.
You could try and sell them on this forum once you have reached the 10 post milestone in case anyone here also has a 'bigger' gauge collection too

Should have said in original post i want to sell them as one lot if possible so e-bay option is out for the moment

i`d be careful with selling them to shops as your loose out big time. i`ve got a dapol 125 that i`m looking to move on, boxed, a1 condition, rails offered me £20 to £25 for it.

what items do you have? i mite be interested in afew if there modern...

Best bet  IMHO is to pick out the most valuable stuff and sell it as individual items on ebay and then shift the uninteresting stuff in related blocks.

Agree with EP, this is what I did when I changed to N. I good some good prices for the OO stuff. For example, a local shop offered me £30 for track and points (provided I spent the £30 with them). I got over £70 by selling on eBay.

I'm currently changing to N and would definitely recommend the eBay route.  I'm amazed at the value I've found in some items I was previously going to throw away!  I'd strongly suggest doing everything as auctions starting at 99p because seeking a higher price to start seems to put folk off!

As EP    has said sell  the interesting items first then  whats left in  lots on  ebay  possibly try the froums fro   sales  as you'll   get a better price than   the shops,  dont know how things are now  but if a shop   offers to give you a ''bit more''  should you take stock  in  N  gauge for eg in  reality they are giving you  25%  less    (their mark  up  on the goods)

Totally agree with the ebay route.  My Dad sold some of his OO stock to a local dealer who offered him a higher price than the big retailers.  He then saw his stock go on ebay and reach almost double.  Despite the fees, ebay does tend to find market value, although check what big events are happening when the auction is due to finish and list accordingly.
