Homage to Electra Rail

I must confess to being something of a bodger when it comes to skilled jobs like fitting vinyl sides to rolling stock. Nevertheless I am grateful for the livery options provided by Electra Rail. Here are a few photos of my GWR stock that could not have happened without Adam's printing. I've also got a couple of Electra Rail coaches but I don't have photos of them. Maybe others might like to post photos of their Electra Rail sides in use?

GWR liveried 158 and 150 using Electra Rail sides

The 158 pack included three ends which allowed for a correct formation 3 car 158 (a 2 car unit plus another end car) as used in the South West

150 on the sea wall. I bought the 150 secondhand specifically to add the Electra Rail sides to it.

I do use almost all proprietary stock as I'm not sufficiently skilled to make or paint my own. This scene was only possible through Electra Rail sides. I think this is the point about Electra Rail, it filled in the gaps that model manufacturers couldn't possibly fill.
Working doesn't seem to be the perfect thing for me so I'll continue to play.

Took me some time but I have got my first class 312 built using Electra vinyls. First thing I have ever attempted and am quite pleased with it although not finished yet - I need to sort out the chassis and wheels still and add buffers and no doubt other issues as well if you looked really close.

Also very happy that, having taken nearly 2 years to get round to doing this (an hour or two at a time) that I purchased a set of NHS branded vinyls for another 312 unit and a set of blue/grey for a class 307 in due course.

Thank you for posting these - it's always great to see the finished article.

It is sad to be leaving Electra but I am confident it will be in good hands. I am sure that I will continue to contribute with new artwork as and when.

Without Captain Electra's excellent Vinyls, my Dapol 68's would still have nothing to pull.

I will be very sad to see Electra go, but hoping that it carries on.  Adam certainly helped me a lot with filling in the gap, as there was nowhere to get EMU's.

I would also like to thank Adam for his support of the forum.  One of our orignal sponsors for the forum, which has greatly helped keep us running and updated.  Adam has also created vinyl's for the old NGF wagons and coaches that travelled the world - as shown above.

Many thanks Adam, and good luck with the future.

Many thanks for the kind words, Chris. Your support and that of the forum has always been much appreciated.

While it is sad that I am passing Electra on, it is good that it will continue to flourish. If I were to have been hit by a bus then it would have disappeared forever.

I will be keeping an eye on things for a while and will probably continue to produce artwork when needed for the new owners.

My role with Dapol is expanding from just the artwork to developing new product lines and Joel feels that N Gauge is the future. Whilst O Gauge has the biggest margins, the market is still comparatively small and the cost-of-living restrictions affecting so many of us mean that we need to be targeting those people without masses of room for huge layouts or big gardens.

That hasn't stopped me getting an O Gauge Small Prairie and GWR Railcar with DCC sound! Only have 6ft of track so far but they are great fun.

That is all great news.

I am very pleased to hear that Electra is not dead but merely sleeping. I really feel Electra fills gaps that manufacturers couldn't possibly fill. I expect to buy some more in the future.

I'm also very pleased to hear Joel's view. 0 gauge is fine for extremely well detailed models and I can understand why they are so popular. They have a certain presence.  I do G on the garden for presence. The size of N provides many opportunities. My favourite feature of N is the ability to run scale length trains in a normal sized room. I think we all need to push this message home when we get the chance.

You would a lot of space to achieve this sort of feel in anything but N.

I would be happy to help Dapol N gauge in any way that I can as an amateur modeller.
