There is one British commercial coach for the royal train in claret livery:
BR Royal Train Mk1 First Class Sleeping car SLF Farish 374-925k

There are a number of Japanese commercial royal trains in a similar dark maroon livery:
JNR Imperial steel train of 1932 Micro Ace A-4721 and A-4720
JNR Imperial steel train of 1960 Micro Ace A-4711
JR East E655 'Nagomi' in Imperial Household livery Kato 10-1123 plus Kato 4935-1 for the royal coach that is added in the middle of this train when used for royalty.

And then there are the blue Prussian royal coaches for King Ludwig II and then for Kaiser Wilhelm II by Arnold/Railex, but these are limited edition collectors items.

That mk1 sleeper is from the previous generation of royal train (I assume at least, it could be fictitious), the existing one is entirely comprised of mk2 and mk3 coaches. Interesting they did one though!

I'm pretty sure the Mk 1 sleeper was withdrawn around 1987.

Thanks for the links Crewearpley40.

It begs the question; Has anyone ever released a Class 47 in Royal Livery?

Cheers,

Geoff
Ozymandias (Gideon)  from this forum reworked a 47 in Royal Livery for me, amongst others.
If you've not had the pleasure of seeing his skills you will be amazed!

Could contact him?

Cheers

Thanks Andy,

It's something I'm considering but as I have a few other purchases, either on the backburner or approaching fulfillment, it's one of those engines worthy of consideration but for the time being I'll remain patient. Patience is probably my only virtue!!

In the meantime, thanks for bringing this option to my attention as I will investigate it.

Farish have done execute livery 47s so I guess one of those could be renamed Windsor Castle to make the Royal train of the 1980s. Here is Windsor Castle with HRH on board passing through Dawlish Warren (well it would be wouldn't it). This photo was taken by me on 21st July 1988. Liz and Phil were on their way to a day out in Torquay.

Working doesn't seem to be the perfect thing for me so I'll continue to play.

Graham Farish (Poole) made a 47 in Swallow livery - 47834 Fire Fly (cat. 8028) which was used to haul the Royal Train on a number of times.
