weve got a major cycle event here on the I o Wight next weekend. Lots of roads will be closed to traffic part time as a safety thing.  Motorists just love em.

Maybe those motorists should consider the revenue brought onto the island by such events

Hmmn..not too sure about that. Its just bad timing..many roads are closed for fibre cable laying..and a lot more traffic as its still the holiday season. The roads just cant cope..already huge delays.
i used to be indecisive...but now i'm not so sure.

Such mental acuity is beyond the residents of the Island I fear, based on the sample here present!

I had noticed the Worlds were in Wollongong, should be an interesting race, albeit it's always a bit weird - some trade team allegiances showing through, and a course which often just means a war of attrition.

Yeah right.

Why are you making this about you? Can we not have a thread without it turning into the Daily Mail comments section? They don't even pay road tax you know.

If you want a thread about travel disruption on the Isle of Wight go and start one. This isn't it.

This event is in my home town. it's a world away from your discussion.

Literally.

Will we see you holding up a big cardboard sign saying 'My Bus Stop Isn't On The Route'. Suitably stood back from the edge of the road, ovbiously...

There is actually a groundswell of local folk who are annoyed about the disruption. Many thoroughfares and bus routes are affected.

I guess the thing is that towns in things like Tour de France are only disrupted for a couple of days. This event is in our city for a week.

Anyway, it all kicks off this weekend, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Again, I would say the groundswell of local folk will welcome the money poured into the local coffers but dislike the 'hassle'. Bloody 'NIMBYs' (Not In My Back Yard)
Fine - hold it somewhere else next time where they're more appreciative of the benefits. :P

Bealette and GrandBealettes were out this morning on a corner of the training run. A lady cyclist waved at her as she flew past!

Just watching the coverage of the time trials, and I must say it makes our town look great. Nice weather today, mind you.

Hi,

Haven't looked into it properly but for UK viewers there are highlights of the men's time trials today at 1.30pm on Eurosport and the women's at 2.30pm if that helps.

As I said before, I'm not really into cycling but will hopefully enjoy the views.

Love the fact that it was a sunny day, the cycling was just down the road and George was watching it on TV presumably with a tinnie of VB in hand - Top Behaviour! .

Cheers, weave  :beers:

My daughter, her husband and granddaughter were at the finish line, so I sorta had a presence. I'll be at the bottom of our street when they go past next weekend, though.

I never realised you had a husband, George ???

Have you got the magpies under control George? Apparently Remco Evenepoel is "terrified" of all the swooping and Stefan Küng says he's going to put an antenna on his helmet to deter mag-attacks.

Bealman

Yes, it's a very real problem, unfortunately. The attacks are frightening - there have been many serious injuries. I was walking out of work one afternoon and was targeted. I had to go back into the building.

It's very common to see folk riding around here with cable ties sticking up from their helmets!
