I've retired this week, after 37 years of teaching the brass instruments, my workmates clubbed together and bought me a Dapol A4. I was wondering how many of you have been given a model railway leaving present. By the way it runs a treat.

I never had a railway related leaving gift myself... but it shows they know you well enough.

Retirement.....I can only dream of it still existing that way things are going!

It's only now that you will start wondering how you used to find time to go out to work, ENJOY.

I can't remember what I got but it certainly wasn't anything railway related, but I am like a kid again at Christmass and Birthday time with my wish list.

Many congrats on retiring from a profession which is probably only second in stress levels to our uniformed services.  I guess that means you will have more time to enjoy  and we can all look forward to regular updates on your layout progress

Congratulations on your retirement, if it turns out like many other retirees including myself you may wonder how you found time to go to work.

Closest I ever got to a railway related gift on retirement was a discount on a Hornby train set.

Not exactly a retirement present, but I finished a 5 year stint working for the state broadcaster in Norway. The lads in the section bought me a DCC ready class 37. Takes pride of place in my collection.

I remember when I left one of my jobs, one of my presents was a tee-shirt with 'You are the Weakest Link - Goodbye' on it (it was all in good fun)

Enjoy every minute of it

I worked for a bank for 32 years and was offered early retirement when I reached 50.

I took this and part of my retirement package was that I could buy my own retirement gift and they would give me £20 for every year Ihad  worked. So I had £640 to spend!  One of the conditions was that it couldn't be spent on a holiday etc and that it had to be spent on something tangible.

So a visit to the Signal Box in Rochester and all £640 was spent in one go!

Thank you to everybody for their really nice comments. I shall make the most of my retirement and the A4 does have pride of place already.
