Following my update on the Oddball line, has any one here built a layout that fits in a shoe box?

Tis a stupid format for the most part however. Box file size works far better or 'oversized' shoe boxes such as the big boxes for boots.

Cheers Alan, as I have size 12 feet and an empty box that once container a pair of walking boots thought I might give it a try. At least I can put the lid on the box when not doing any thing with it.

For all the boxes cut a baseboard, brace it lightly underneath and take care where the glue gets. Boot Lane Goods needed some "interesting" repair work because I got a load of PVA onto the card which did what card likes to do and tried to warp. The board also helps as you can route all the wiring and whatnot under it. That tends to be important because while things like wire in tube work well for microlayout pointwork you still need wires for uncouplers, lighting and effects, all of which make a big difference.

One thing I must do some day as an experiment is also put a speaker in the underboard area. It's small enough that sound ought to be a doddle and seem ok in a fixed position.

Cracking effort Alan, I had been considering a box file for a future NGF project, it would allow those currently without layouts to at least have a wee practice at most aspects of modelling

I'm a big fan of small/micro layouts and Boot Lane is a cracking example of how you dont need a big space to build a convincing layout.......

Glad to see some people think it is a good idea.
My thoughts were it is a bit more than a diorama. Will give it a go and will make it as a removable insert to the box.
Going for a sector plate and one point.
One loco and 2 or 3 wagons.

This could be ideal to place your kitbashing entry onto, a custom made scene giving a natural follow on to the current project

Good Point there, shopping list to write I think. Looks like Ultra Low relief will be needed.

Well I did my kit bash entry, thanks John(scotsoft) found a some suitable buildings, all I need to decide now  is do I go Std  Gauge or Narrow gauge?

Will start new thread in layouts when track gauge decided.
