I've two locos which require attention and are both under warranty.

I contacted Dapol yesterday and received a reply within the hour advising me to contact their repair agents. I e-mailed the agents and they contacted me within the hour and set up the process for the return/repair of the loco.

I contacted Hornby/Arnold on 7th February and have yet to receive a reply.

Does anyone have any experience with Hornby - I don't really want to get a refund on the loco (2 car Brighton Belle) as it was a 50th anniversary gift from my wife.

Hello

I thought that as the product was purchased as new I believe that the Sale of Goods Act gives protection of up to six months with the dealer - this would be over and above the manufacturers warranty, which should be activated when the item is sold to the public.

I'm with you on that, Geoff. Problem is, they may not have a replacement for you but that's v.poor communication on their end. Hope you can get it replaced/repaired.

Hi Geofff

It is unlikely that anyone will be able to replace the model, because of the time since they were first produced. Most are to be found on EBay.

Can you tell us what you believe is the matter with the unit? We might be able to tell if this is going to be a big job or a little one.
There are a number of "semi-professional" service engineers on the forum, who we know are going to be reliable if you were to send it to them.

Must admit I'm not sure who I would/could go to for official repairs of Continental brands such as Arnold (and lets face the Brighton Belle is an Arnold model with the same components as any of their continental models etc.).   I don't know how much of a Service Department Hornby run nowadays.

Fortunately I've been tinkering with N long enough to feel I know my way around how they tick (although of course "tick" would probably mean a split gear :D :D  )

Spares can be found for some bits and pieces so it depends what the problem is?

Thanks for the input.

I did phone  Hornby and the person that I spoke to said that he would send a reminder to the overseas help desk - since had a confirmation that my message is being reviewed. I also contacted the supplier, who has no N gauge items.

The problem is that , in reverse, the power car keeps stopping and now slows and the lights flicker when crossing points (which never happened previously).

I did get the model for a very good price, so I would prefer to keep this item as a refund , then  replacement would cost upwards of £50. BobG has also mentioned that this model holds it's value.

Regards

Geoff
