Hi all,

Looking to obtain a Class 150 in Northern livery. Did anyone grab one, and what do you think?

And do we know why there isn't a sound fitted variant?

Thanks all!

I bought one, because Northern is one of the train operating companies where I live.
The livery is already out of date because in 2020 Northern changed their logo when it was nationalised from "Northern by Arriva" to "NORTHERN"

BTW it ran OK on my DC test track.
Maybe there might have been resistance to a sound fitted version, because Northern's 150s operate widely (except in the North East), if it was the only one available in that livery.
I couldn't afford a sound fitted version if that was the only available option.

From what I understand, and it seems confirmed by the Model Centre, the latest 150s are pre-fitted with a speaker.

So all you need is a 6 pin sound decoder, a sound file and to solder wires from the decoder to the speaker.

I looked over the Northern 150 at Doncaster and was most impressed. Excellent livery application and the tooling has been updated to reflect the blanked out toilet window.

I'm sure the logo could be changed easily enough to the new NORTHERN version if so inclined.

The logo timeline is nuts - northern - northern by arriva - northern (again) - NORTHERN. From observation it looks like the uppercase version is pretty much universal now.

I purchased one at Doncaster on Saturday and ran it all weekend on Roxby Town (stand 71). It ran very well at slow speeds, far better than the old version.

It's odd that the Northern 150 has no DCC sound fitted version as the other three current releases (original Provincial light blue, later GMPTE and Arriva Trains Wales) have both DC and DCC Sound options.

I'm puzzled as to why the GMPTE ones are £17-£18 more. I'm guessing they're made fewer of them rather than the livery being more expensive to apply - there are fewer colours than on the Northern one.
