Hello

Still struggling to find anything "BR/Southernish" to buy/run. Think that I've exhausted the web and now need the local expertise.

Has any manufacturer issued any of the 1960s Standard Class locos - thinking of Class 2 , 3 and the tank engines?

Regards

Geoff

BR Standard steam locos:

Class 2 - the preceding LMS types have been done, Tank by Dapol, Tender by Farish but not the BR types. The LMS tanks at least worked on the Southern.

Class 3 - the Tank has been done by Farish. No tender version.

Class 4 - both the Tank and 2-6-0 Tender types have been done by Farish. The 4-6-0 tender version is available as a white metal kit. The preceding LMS Fairburn type is also available from Farish and also worked on the SR (a batch was built at Brighton)

Class 5 - has been done by Farish.

Class 7 (Britannia) done by Dapol.

Class 9F done by Dapol.

What about the Farish N class?
I have a photo of Exmouth Junction shed in 1964 and I see four N class locos.
Dapol will release the M7 with up to date chassis, one of those is also on the photo.

For ex SR you can also add Union Mills T9 and 700 class, their 0395 does not quite make it, last went 1959. Bullied pacifics qualify, and if you're into kits, BHE N15/King Arthur and Langley S15

Don't forget the C class 0-6-0, Merchant Navy 4-6-2 and the Dapol Terrier too, all good Southern locos

The OP asked a similar question when referring to the Schools.

He's getting the same answers....  ;)

So perhaps he needs to look at those replies as well?

Dapol do a Q1 in Southern & BR or if you are up for a kit build a Q1 is available from Langley which uses a Farish Pannier chassis.

Martyn - never been called an OP before - what does it mean?  I do appreciate and read the answers given on this forum. So far , on the advice: I missed out on the all green Class 73; I was advised not to run a Schools class on R1 curves: and I had an N class, but it kept derailing. There are not many locos available at the moment for the era that I want and the second hand market is very bouyant.

If you don't want to give any help, then don't.

Many thanks for the rest of the replies and a very Happy New Year.

OP = original post or poster.

Geoff.

I'm always happy to help, and have replied to you on your previous thread. It's not meant to be critical of you, and I appreciate the new and second hand N gauge market is a bit iffy at present.

But there are only a limited number of models available from all the manufacturers, and I noted in this thread that you were getting similar replies to the Schools thread, with, generally, the same locos suggested as alternatives.

PLD answered your question accurately, and the other posters have given you further ideas.

Sorry if I've caused you an upset. It wasn't intended.

And yes, OP was used as original post or poster.

Hello Martyn

Until lockdown, the layout had been dismantled and was in the loft for ten years. I'm getting very frustrated with trackwork - should have used new track not 35 year old second hand.

I do appreciate your comments and apologise for being touchy.
