With a grinding machine. Not sure I like the sound of it though

rock dust is
- bad for the lungs
- tends to funny colours with some PVAs
- is nasty when it gets into mechanisms.

I was once a fan of the stuff, but the woodland scenics fake stuff looks more real than the real stuff, as (if you must use grit) does a lot of the sand type stuff some people favour.

Good news on the catering side and the 56 though.

Grinding and milling are two different processes, hence the 'comment'

I wash bemused by the concept of putting a lump of rock in a milling machine and cutting out individual tiny bits of ballast. Grinding would be so much easier and quicker.

I can't believe it's not real ballast!

Hmm no, grinding and milling are the same. Stop thinking metal work think more flour mill, or even gunpowder. You grind/crush an item to get an end product but the process is still called milling.

Well, it's July the second, and guess what ......

still no sign of Dapol's June releases.

perhaps they are in a parallel, but somewhat later, universe.

I've got buffets  pre-ordered, seems for years, with Hattons, so I need to allow for the improbable fact that Dapol might release them, so need to leave some latitude on my flexible friend, and guess what, even when they announce a release date they can't actually manage it.

god knows when we will actually get the TGS, if even.

I really hate Dapol.

In real life, rock is neither ground nor milled, it's crushed. Large rocks are first broken up in a Jaw Crusher and then passed through a series of rollers and screens. The rollers are set with gradually reducing gaps and the various sizes are screened off as the rock passes through each stage.
