Hi All

Whilst looking on Ebay, I came across a couple of Farish 08s in Dutch Rail liveries, Grey and yellow and green and yellow. Also a pair of crimson ones (numbered 3 &4 respectivley.) repaints?
Now Im aware they did a J94 in Dutch Railways Green,in fact I have one,but have never come across the 08s in the above liveries. Not mentioned in the spotters guide (the steam one is before anyone points out its for British locos!) or N gauge resource.
Any information would be welcome.
Strangely they are all missing motors!

Cheers
Andy

Bring the item up in a tab on your browser, copy the link in the address bar and paste it into the post on here.  Simples  :D  It's not absolutely necessary but it  helps if you then select the entire pasted link and click the "Insert Hyperlink" button (right of the YouTube button) to wrap the link in "url" tags.

Is this one of them?

Looking at that Dutch 08 above, I'd say that's a homebrew respray. The yellow is a bit thin with fuzzy edges, and they don't even seem to have taken the body off - look how the yellow has gone onto the interior chassis bits in the cab?

The coupling rods are upside down on the green one and one-and-a-half of the crimson ones  :)

I did a quick search on Dutch sites and it seems that there has never been a factory produced Dutch 08.
Or J94.

There was I believe two J94s in Dutch green,I have one.
The Spotters Guide to British Locomotives 2020
lists NS8811 Dutch Green 101A
NDS8826 Dutch Green 101B (the one I have)

I was told they were for export only

Dutch railways sold some austerity 0-6-0 locos to the state owned mines when they were withdrawn.
The green livery is the 'original' Dutch railways livery.
NS8811 was preserved and is running again.

The NS series Diesel-electric locomotives NS 500/600/700 were in service with the NS between 1946 and 1998 and have been used by various private companies and museum purposes ever since. During the liberation, the British War Department brought various locomotives to Europe. One of these types was a three axle diesel locomotive.
A number of these locomotives were taken over by NS and eventually NS had ten of these locomotives in service in the series NS 501-510. These locomotives performed so well for shunting work that it was decided to purchase more of this type.
Unlike the ten War Department locomotives, the remaining locomotives were purchased new.
Roughly speaking, two series of these locomotives could be distinguished.

One group did not have a continuous air brake and was therefore only suitable for shunting work. These were classified in the class 500 (NS 511-545).

Another group had a continuous Knorr air brake, so that light freight trains could also be driven with it. These locomotives were classified in the series 600 (NS 601-665).

Finally, a third series of 15 locomotives without an engine was purchased. In the Netherlands, these received a diesel engine from Stork-Thomassen and were classified in the series 700 (NS 701-715).

Externally, the locomotives were all the same and were purchased between 1949 and 1957.

The ten War Department locomotives initially entered service with the NS in WD gray. Later, all locomotives were painted over in green or delivered. The locomotives still in service from this small group in the 1970s were then painted yellow-grey.
The locomotives were given a flashing blue light in 1963 for service at locations where road traffic was crossed. In 1984 this was replaced by a red flashing light.

The 501-510 were withdrawn from service between 1969 and 1972. The series 700 locomotives followed in 1972 and 1973. These mainly served in the port of Rotterdam and were replaced by 600 locomotives equipped with radiographic controls. Eventually 23 locomotives received radio control and were numbered in the series 671-693 (renumbering: 601 - 671, 602 - 672, 605 - 673, 606 - 674, 607 - 675, 611 - 676, 612 - 677, 613 - 678, 614 - 679, 615 - 680, 616 - 681, 620 - 682, 621 - 683, 626 - 684, 627 - 685, 630 - 686, 632 - 687, 634 - 688, 652 - 689, 625 - 690, 642 - 691 649-692, 659-693).
Between 1976 and 1989 the 511-545 were withdrawn from service and the 601-665 followed from 1991. The 653, 663, 761, 685, 687 and 692 were sold to Great Britain.
Several private companies took the locomotives into service in the Netherlands. It can be found on various websites which these were and which companies they went to and then switched again.
A number of other locomotives went to various rail museums, details of which can also be found on various websites.

The locomotive was not released in European N gauge (1/160). Only the British N gauge (Graham Farish) has a type that was also released in NS colors. The Graham Farish is actually a bit too big for 1/160 but the differences are minimal. This locomotive is the British variant. However, kits are available via shapeways to convert this into a Dutch variant.
