I had an email proporting to come from Tesco, saying I had won. If you hit reply, you will see at the bottom of your post, the actual email address of the sender. If it's not Tesco, it's a scam.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

as it quotes 'clubcard member' did it quote your number, which would either mean it is genuine, or that Tesco has been hacked ?

Read the small print where it says it's got nothing to do with the products being shown  :)  Not quite a scam, but misleading.  I see these all the time and just ignore them.

Mr Sprue

I reply with really abusive messages to these scammers, especially the automated phone calls using mobile numbers. After I sent them I then block the number!

Pointless really, as one day one of these messages could be genuine and I risk getting a knock at the door! :-[

Plus loads more spam because you've just confirmed you are an active email/telephone number and therefore your email address/number is worth more when it's sold onto others.

It's also worth stopping your email program automatically downloading the images in emails if it doesn't already do so as that will also show that an email address is active.

I don't have a club card and I've only been in Tesco about three times. Plus it has a place to put a name and it says Hi [fname] which was a bit of a giveaway.

Don't be too sure, I used to work for a major finance company, and we were always sending communications that said "dear [salutation] [surname]"

But yes, that's as spammy as a spammy thing made from spam.

Newportnobby

Having been a Clubcard holder since they introduced them, any mails sent to me from Tesco address me with my surname. I tend to get bogus mails from paypal stating my account has been frozen but a check on the mail address of the sender is always a dead giveaway it's spam

Local Tesco no longer does cash back, you have to go outside and use the cash machine, there are 2 installed but during covid only one works, the other is presumabley less than 2M away.

TBH I don't get so many now, although there has been a few lately on the landline but we are blocking them also.

A Friends answer machine message says:

"Thank you for calling Hull City Council Trading Standards, telephone fraud team. Sorry we are unable to answer your call, however our system has logged your phone number and one of our investigators will contact you shortly..."

Won't do a lot of good - most of the automated calling systems can detect an answering machine and hang up the call.

I once had a flurry of scam emails come in from a numpty who'd obviously only just downloaded the scammer's toolkit and hadn't worked out  how to set it up properly.

I got several emails from British Gas advising me that my Virgin Media monthly direct debit had been rejected, and similar number from Virgin Media telling me that my British Gas monthly direct debit had been rejected  ;D
