In my house, a pre-1900 Terrace, I do not get a signal.  I walk down to the back gate and I get at least 3 bars, so in effect inside the house is a "not spot".  I've been on vodaphone, orange(now EE) and currently on ID, which piggybacks on the 3 network.  All have been the same.
Does anyone have any hints on how I can improve things please?
Cheers, Trev.

I'm no expert on mobile phones, but to improve TV reception in dead spots, you put an aerial where you can get a signal and connect it to an amplifier that feeds another aerial (cross polarised with the receiving aerial). You place the aerial where you can see the dead spot. However mobile phones need send and receive so is a more complicated situation.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

If you have a home wireless network for your broadband, look into a technology called "wifi calling". Basically, it lets your phone use your broadband connection to send and receive calls. It's been around for a while now, but if you've got an old phone it might not support it. Also, for some weird reason, you typically have to call your cellular provider and get them to turn the feature on. There's no charge for it thought.

Where I live we have the same problem, no cellular reception indoors. Wifi calling has been a brilliant solution.

I believe you can get signal booster devices if you enquire.

I have a similar problem, my phone has to sit on a front window ledge in order to get any signal at all.  I checked the signal coverage on the net and it shows I'm just outside the radius of signal strength that should work indoors, so officially it shouldn't work at all.

It's one reason I rarely notice incoming phone calls or texts.

A few years back Vodafone/O2 planned to put up a mast about 200 yards from my home. One of my neighbours, who previously worked for O2, identified that the mast would be useless as it was placed within our dead zone where signals do not get in or out. V/O2 were adamant it was fine and transmission was not an issue. So we objected to the planning application and it was rejected. V/O2 appealed and received consent on a technicality. When they did further checking, it was confirmed that the mast siting would not work, so the mast never happened. Since then we have all moved on to "wifi calling" which is good for all kinds of calls and messages. We have fibre up to about 100 yards from home, and the wifi is very capable.

Been researching wi-fi calling today, as this would seem to solve my problem.  However nor my phone (Motorola G7 Power) or ID support it.  Looks like I may have to get a new phone and provider.  Drat!
Cheers, Trev.

Moto G7 should support wifi calling.

As I said earlier, it's weird the way the companies do it. You will not see the option available on your phone until your cellular company turn it on. My phone is a Moto G5 and it works fine. Get the cellualar company to turn it on, and then try again with the phone.

For years the mobile reception where I live has been appalling, to the extent if my phone stated I had a text message I literally had to go to the top of the garden to read it. About 5 years ago Orange/Vodaphone tried to get permission for a mast but the council denied it. Something has changed in the last year or so as I can now read/send texts indoor, but it still doesn't warrant me getting a smart phone despite my desire for some of the features of one

Just remembered that you said you have a contract with ID. Looks as if they don't support that particular device, sorry for getting your hopes up. Which phones are supported looks pretty random across all providers - perhaps easy enough to check if (when) your plan's up for renewal.

save your money unless you really NEED the features.

upgraded my daughter's phone last year, she's on a family plan with Tesco, and I was supposed to get free double data AND clubcard plus, which supposedly gave me 10% off a shop every month.

but I use a flip phone [if it's good enough for L J Gibbs, it's good enough for me  >:D]

but of course you need a smart phone [so called] to be able to download the 'app'.

so got one off one of the late night shopping channels, yeah I know total  :censored:  :-[

wasn't going to pay the Tesco cost of a new phone and contract [yes I'm a tight  :censored:]

but the app wouldn't download properly... and the bars were absolutely marginal

many, many, many  :'(calls to Tesco who couldn't sort it out, so went back to my flip

now got loads of bars, phone goes brrr brr and I answer, or not, and I don't need all the stuff that was on the so called smart phone.

still paying for clubcard plus, BUT it's cheaper than adding the extra data to my daughter's phone, so she pays for it.

oh for the good old brick, it rang, you answered, you dialed, it rang.

and the  :censored: smart phone ?

gave it to one of my grandsons when his screen got broken. and good riddance as far as I am concerned.

rant over, for now.

The best poor reception I've experienced was at a B& on the Isle of Skye.
If you wanted a mobile signal you had to wait for the tide to come in  :smiley-laughing:
