have just had notification from Rails that they are doing a deal on mermaids. At £33 a pop can't afford a whole train but might run to a couple. Can any of you knowledgeable types tell me what livery  is appropriate for  the steam/diesel transition era, please?

Black would be the suitable livery, as would Gulf Red.

Best

Scott.
If you know someone who's depressed, please resolve never to ask them why. Depression isn't a straightforward response to a bad situation; depression just is, like the weather.Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness, and loneliness they're going through. Be there for them when they come through the other side. It's hard to be a friend to someone who's depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do."

The original mermaids were built for the GWR in 1930, with BR following up with a batch of 90 which were delivered between 1954 and 1957. These would be in black and didn't have any automatic train brakes.

BR built a further batch of 550 between 1959 and 1961. These had vacuum train brakes from new. The first 200 were delivered in black, the remaining 350 in gulf red.

Olive green followed in the early 1970s and Dutch grey/yellow in the 1980s.

Interesting. When I ordered them in Nov last year they were £28.85 and the Shark was £31.40.
Wonder if they'll honour that price :hmmm:

Hi Roy,
Just reread the message from Rails, not no much a deal just an advisory of new arrivals, but as I have a bit of the C&HPR (which served a lot of limestone quarries) on my layout it made me think that a couple would look good.
