Hello
I have just started to build an n gauge layout.

I wonder if you help me identify some of the bits below that came in the box with my Cornish Riviera set please.

I have inserted a chip so I am using the EZ Command as DCC not analogue.

I think I have worked out how to use the function button to turn the engine's lights on. Are they any other functions it can do? Is there a guide anywhere?

Any clues will be appreciated.

1 looks like a buffer that can be put at the end of a siding.

2 looks like a spare bogie for the train

3 is the dcc blanking plate for the engine, if you want to put it back to analogue control

4 are the detailing parts for the engine, should be instruction with the set that show where these go, same goes for the bits from the carriages, should add that these are not necessary to add to either the engine or carriages.

The wire is a different way of connecting the controller to the track specifically to be used with Bachmann's EZ track system.

Many thanks.

I have inserted a Zimo chip. The one that came out looks the same as item 3 so I guess it is a spare blanking plate.

Would have thought there was already a DCC chip in it as it is a DCC set and wouldn't have needed to put the Zimo in. Did you test it before putting the Zimo in. Think you may have done something that you didn't need to do.

I have bought a CLASS 3F JINTY BR BLACK LATE CREST 0-6-0 TANK LOCOMOTIVE NO.47500 By Graham Farish | Code: 372-212A | N Gauge so perhaps I can use the original chip in that?

Unfortunately unlikely. The Jinty has very tight space and is designed for a specific right-angle decoder.

Standard chip should fit most other models though - Jinty is the odd one out.

I seem to remember the Bachmann right angle chip is not very good. I have two Jintys one with a Lenz which is hardwired and the other I have put the standard Zimo decoder but bent the pins very carefully with pliers.

So, put the original back in the Riviera set and try the Zimo in the Jinty.....with care.

same goes for the bits from the carriages,

The larger bits look like the gangway covers, used on the end coaches in a rake to protect the sliding inner doors from the elements.
Also rather handy if the train picks up from water troughs and the fireman doesn't get the scoop up quickly enough  :D

Hi one thing I would do as quick as is financially possible Is to buy a different controler. I had one of these sets and it cooked s couple of decoders and two loco's. They are ok for oo gauge but not great for N. The parts are a buffer stop, gang way covers and various pipe's. There is s spare bogie cover for the loco if you don't want couplers both ends.

Trenoweth

There's a lesson learned! I set up the track but neither loco was interested in moving.
A friend had coded each chip on a better system. He tested the locos. Chips had fried.
New chips, coded locos as 1 and 2. Work fine on his test track with another DCC controller but nothing with EZ controller.
Now totally confused and not the best introduction to a new hobby!
Can anyone suggest what the problem could be and how to fix it?
Thanks.
