Ok, so I've decided to fit sound to my new BachFar 8F.

Unfortunately, my LMS 8F wasn't available with fitted sound.

I've heard the BachFar sound loco, and I quite like it. Does anyone know what sound profile/company they used, and where I can obtain it?

I'm struggling to find a supplier for sound file/chip.

Hi

Don't know who Farish used for their sounds but Youchoos to a 8F and can blow it to a next18 decoder

Others will be along soon with their recommendations

Bachmann/Farish have yet to make their DCC Sound decoders available as a separate item.

Until they do, there are a few suppliers that may be able to help:
https://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Shop.php?L1=Project&Item=LMS8F&SNDDECO=MX659N18

If you want the Farish sound decoder then you'll need to find someone who wants one of the sound fitted liveries (late BR crest & LMS red) but doesn't want sound and arrange to swap some £££s for the decoder.

My early crest example has a Zimo MX658N18 sound decoder and You-Choos sound file fitted, it sounds great. John of You-Choos is really helpful, below is a link to their 8F project page, it is not yet updated with the Farsih N Gauge model but there is a sample of the sound there to listen to: -

I paid £101.70 including postage.

No connection, just a regular and very satisfied customer.

Thanks fellas, getting closer.

Sooo, does anyone know how much space is available for a Next 18 sound decoder? I'm currently looking at Zimo MX658N18/MX659N18, but try as I might I can't find any data on available decoder size in the tender.

I'd prefer to fit the MX658N18 at 25 x 10.5 x 4 (mm) as it has a slightly higher rating and stay alive capacity.

Has anyone had the top off their tender?

The MX 658N18 is what is in my 8F, it fits no problem.

Aha!

@Dr Al if I could disturb you for a moment. It's been pointed out that you've had the tender top off your 8F, I was wondering if you could tell me if a Zimo MX658N18 would fit in. Dimensions are as above.

Hope you can shed some light. Cheers.

Bachmann's factory fit chip is a Zimo unit as far as I know, so it's probably the same one - so I doubt fit would be an issue. There's more space in the 8F tender than the Castle, for example.

Cheers,
Alan

Sorry, am I reading this right? Over £100 to put a sound chip in the 8F....... Wow, I'll come round and make chuffing noises for a month for that!

Yep, that's what decent sound decoders cost presently.

Well the sound fitted 8f's are going for £220, that's what I paid for mine and it sounds superb.

Oooo, okay, everyone calm down.

Firstly, apologies. I'm not sure how, but I didn't see the post from @Roy L S , don't know how I missed, but sorry. Second apology to @Dr Al for disturbing him when I should have already seen the answer.

@Southerngooner yup, its eye watering, but it may well be the only loco I ever do sound on, so I'm going for the best version I can get. I can promise that my fleet of eight Jubilees will not be getting done, for £850 I can buy myself another eight Jubilees and get Ozymandias to repaint them.

Although I'm tempted to take you up on the 'chuffing noises for a month' for £100. Do you bring your own refreshments or do I have to provide that?

I've got to spend my Christmas money on something.
