Maybe a thread in the wrong place, but, let's go!

Has anyone ever made a stab at making a N Gauge representation of a dual-gauge railway?  Around the late 1880s before IKB's correct gauge was finally dislodged by Geordie Stevenson's unimaginative ideas of a gauge that was (is) best suited to horse-drawn coal trucks?

I suppose the track would be tricky, but sourcing the rolling stock and loco more difficult again.

It has been done in the past I believe using 2fs parts.

The track (plain track anyway) isn't in theory that hard to do. I've been playing with 3D printing baulk track but that didn't quite come off. Points look a bit exciting and I'm not sure I really understand how a dual gauge point has to be put together.

For wheels there are some options - you could certainly 3D print rolling stock wheels. You could also make use of some of the 3mm society ones (14mm gauge so just right) although getting suitable diameters will be trickier. Most modern wheels are mounted on 1.5mm rod so it's also possible to pull them off existing axles and reassemble them on longer ones although you'd need some way to make the pinpoints.

Locomotives will be fun and you'll probably need access to suitable parts and gears.

Given all that if you are seriously pondering it I think you probably want to be talking to some of the 2fs modellers as that'll give you access to pretty much all the parts you would need.
