I have an area on my layout approximately 3' x 1' 6" which I would like to use for farmland including a farmhouse, out-buildings, animals and maybe some machinery working in the fields. Now I know that fields are all  different in size, but what would you recommend for the average sized field?

Thanks
Rob

the  more little  fields  you  have  the  better  they will look!

hedges between the  fields   need  lots of  diff  types of  trees / bushes!!

you  can make  a good  ploughed  field with  string  covered with a  fireash / glue/ paint  mix

ah no....
cos  you  fall into  the  trap...

an make a  ploughed  field....  an  put a  trattor an a  plough on it...

then  realise  that half  the  field should  be unploughed....

coff..

Some lovely pics of farmland there 'Fisherman' and the ploughed fields idea is great!

Staying on the same theme, if anyone knows where I can purchase some modern day tractors, machinery etc I would be grateful.

well even the smallest field is going to have its shortest dimension of at least half a furlong- about 100m or 110 yards

thats 2 foot 2 in English old money converted into 1:148 isnt it?

and thats the shortest dimension

soooo maybe let artistic license roam free
running in is so you get used to the noise, oops, to bed the gears down properly

I believe the dark coloured corrugated paper you get in choccy boxes is good for ploughed fields ;D ;)

That's the best excuse I've heard yet for buying some chocs! Mmmmm
