TPM cut-away buffer beam kit - 1247

   Greetings all! Whilst continuing to sort through my boxes of random train stuff I found the above item partially assembled but no instructions for it. A photo of it is below along with item 1347 (class 47 detailing pack) and an unknown etch numbered 21357. (That appears to be a short piece of plasticard next to this last item.)




   The etch in question is the one in the middle. The partially assembled item has the main frame bent into a U with the two lugs on the upper half folded down and the legs bent outwards slightly. I can tell that the square pieces with circular holes are to line up with the holes on the main frame for the buffers to slot into but the other two pieces, the shorter and longer bars with lugs, I am at a complete loss for.

   If any one has either a copy of the instructions or can remember what on earth I am supposed to do with these your input would be massively appreciated. Additionally, any help identifying the mystery etch would also be welcome. I have searched through the website (which is still up, randomly) but I cannot find that part number anywhere on it.

They are footsteps that glue on to the front above the new buffer beam and below the body.  IIRC use one or the other depending on loco number.

   Oh! Thank you, I think I see now. The attach to the underside of the cab front and protrude slightly, I had got it into my head that they attached to the main frame somewhere.

Pete is right. When I was researching these I found there were two common positions so did those two alternatives. What you have there is the early Freightliner Cl.57 conversion, the third etch and the plastic strip are for the altered section of roof, revised exhausts and sandboxes.
I still have supplies of the 1247 etches, but not the other two.

   Well, I'm not getting a more authoritative answer than that! Now I just have to work out why I had that Cl. 57 conversion kit as the only Cl. 47 I have to apply it to is in my favourite LL livery. Answers breed more questions it seems. I've uncovered a few more various etches for Cl. 37s and 50s and happily have instructions with at least one of each.

   I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you for all the work you put into the hobby. Having started applying the detailing parts and bufferbeam to my 47 the transformation in appearance is astounding. Whilst it is great to see finer details on newer models there is something special about seeing an evolution of a model as you work on it. So thank you for making it possible and may you enjoy a long and happy life.
