Now the autumn is here, the petrol mower has been put away and I've contracted out to this years late season crew to keep on top of the back lawn.

They're on flexi-hours, and to be frank, if they don't do a half decent job they'll end up casseroled.

I can explain it to you...

Our grass is way too long and needs a last cut for this year. The trouble is that I've been trying to get it done for weeks, but it's not been dry for long enough for the ground to dry out enough.

Grass is mostly dead, trees are dying. :(
Water tanks about 1/4 full.  No rain forecast.
Smoke so thick can't see hills on the otherside of the valley. :'(

Haven't had to mow for 7 months. :)
To be called pompous and arrogant - hell of a come down.
I tried so hard to be snobbish and haughty.

The Q

Mowed the grass Saturday, took about 2 hours to do the main areas but there's a lot more to do. If I don't keep mowing all year the Alexander and Brambles try to take over..

At the moment it is that wet that *I'd* sink in!

Ah, the paradox of the hemispheres.

You folks have the water problem, we have the fire problem!

36 degrees forecast for tomorrow, skies getting smokey here, many miles from the bushfires!

Mind you, the worst damage to Bealman's locale was flooding.

Can't beat artificial grass. A quick brush once in a while does the job.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Which Woodland Scenics shade is that, Malc?
I think it's Malc's lawn colour, Mick.

Pretty cool!

Are the plants plastic too?  ;)

No George, all the plants, trees etc are real. It's just the grass on the 3 lawns that's artificial. When I did my back in, in 2017, I was laid up for 3 months and my better half struggled to mow the lawns. The underlying soil is clay and took ages to dry out before you could mow it. Hence the change to artificial grass. Never regretted it.

I think I prefer the water problem! Even flooding (happened to my sister some years ago) usually only causes damage (although a woman in Yorkshire was drowned in the last few days), fire is a lot more scary.
